The SaSh Soup Kitchen
The Salaam Shalom Soup Kitchen is a joint Muslim/Jewish project founded on the belief that working together across communities and perceived boundaries helps build community cohesion and break down barriers. We serve over 140 hot meals every Wednesday night between 5.30- 7.30pm at the Bridge Centre on Gregory Boulevard in Hyson Green.
A typical week at SaSh
Who is it for ?
Sash prides itself on catering for all those in need regardless of their circumstances, over the years we have served food to destitute refugees & asylum seekers, those in food poverty, those suffering from loneliness & isolation, with mental health problems & substance misuse, those from low income families & those experiencing issues with their benefits.
We collaborate and receive referrals from local agencies, including Framework, the Nottingham Refugee Forum, POW, the Nottingham Arimethea Trust and local GPs practices. However, many people come to us through word of mouth and everyone is welcome.
We do not ask for any information from our guests when they arrive and there is no charge for our food, but donations are welcomed from those who are able to donate
SaSh offers a friendly environment, a hot meal and company, often accompanied by musical entertainment and sometimes talks. In addition to serving meals on-site, we also give away any leftover food in takeaway boxes and we also offer groceries for people to take with them so they are fed throughout the week.
