About Himmah
Himmah is the largest independent food bank in Nottingham City. We are particularly in demand because we try and cater for Asian, African and Caribbean families and their specific cultural diets.
In the festive season (2022), from November to December, we packed and delivered 3200 food parcels and 1200 Christmas hampers. Outside of the festive season we deliver up to 300 food parcels a week.
People Make Himmah
As a local grassroots community Charity our work and our delivery is wholly driven by local people. All the Trustees, Staff and Volunteers are ordinary local Nottingham people, with a huge commitment to help others.
Team
Jagdish is Himmah’s Head of Race, Arts and Heritage and has worked on issues related to anti-racism, social engagement, and working-class communities through the arts as well as social action work. Over the past few years, he has undertaken projects with people from the Gypsy Roma community, Asian football clubs, Muslim War Veterans, and Punjabi bar owners in the Black Country.
Elliot has been working with Himmah since November 2020, initially as a volunteer and now as one of our Project Coordinators. With the help of our current team of inspiring volunteers, he oversees daily operations at the foodbank, FoodPrint (Radford), and our allotments.
Saj is Himmah’s Founder and Director and started the organisation when he saw a destitute asylum seeker trawling through bins for food. Since then, Saj committed to doing purpose-driven work overseeing Himmahs growth and has been a critical part in developing our projects and campaigns.
Caron is Himmah’s head of resources and is chiefly responsible for our Human Resources related activity, reporting on projects, Major donors' fundraising and our policy and procedural work. Before Himmah, Caron worked with destitute asylum seekers to secure safe and reliable housing.
Himmah aspires to create change by building more cohesive, empowered, educated and prosperous communities. We do this by developing grassroots initiatives to meet the needs and aspirations of the citizens of Nottingham
